One of our services is to establish a clothes production and retail social enterprise. WSCC have funded this project with £25K Social Enterprise Fund. This will operate as a trading arm of My Sisters’ House but a stand- alone social business which will be profitable.
Upcycled clothes - priced as new bespoke fashion items. The clothes will be for example added to with designer Liberty materials or altered with a different cut, sometimes rebuilt for example; an old coat (purchased £2 at car boot) is stripped, taken to pieces, reassembled with high end tailored look, added embroidery and colour lining and offered for retail at £65.00.
There is a major need to reduce landfill land we plan to make an impact in reducing clothes thrown into such. With our chronic addiction to ‘fast fashion’ and companies and trends nowadays moving so quickly and the programs such as the BBC Sewing Bee which have caused a surge in creative home sewing, our enterprise is perfectly timed!
We have appointed our two new Creative Designers and actively looking for our first apprentices. Creative talented women who can sew already and wish to volunteer will be warmly welcomed!!!
Oxfam said 9,513 garments were thrown into landfill every 5 minutes in 2012 totalling £1 billion worth of items per year – equivalent to 1-4 sold. We know there is an undeniable gap in the market for ‘up-cycled’ products.
''We add value by transforming or re-inventing otherwise
throw-away items into something unique of higher quality, desirable as a recognised and valued clothing label''
''We will take unloved, unwanted clothes, up-cycle them with good design and workmanship''
